Architecture & Interiors
OPISO Studio embraces projects across the spectrum of architectural and interior design and at varying scales of size. For the following specialties, design services include survey, site/condition assessment, preservation & restoration research, consultant coordination, programming, drawings, and specifications.

Historic Preservation represents the highest standard of care for the treatment of existing sites, whether it's required for a designated landmark, a goal of stakeholders, or simply to maintain a real estate value. OPISO Studio’s portfolio of past experience includes work on significant public and private sites including the United Nations Headquarters, the Cartier Mansion, the Massachusetts State House, National Register districts, National Historic Landmarks, and buildings throughout the National Park Service.

Adaptive Reuse is the type of “phoenix” project we love. OPISO Studio shares an owner’s thrill to embrace restoration as a catalyst for an underused building. In addition to preserving local context, adaptive reuse conserves the embodied energy of existing materials, reduces our construction wastestream, and helps revitalize districts. Through decades of experience working with existing buildings, OPISO Studio is skilled with integrating new construction with the old. Each project develops its own balance of preserving a building’s authenticity while enhancing its design and functionality.

Architecture and Interior Design are approached with a curiosity to reveal the underlying qualities of a project’s site, its purpose, or its relationship with a client. OPISO Studio’s design approach is informed by an encyclopedic knowledge of design references and innovations spanning over a century of traditional and modern design. From this foundation, each project is developed according to its own commodity, nuance of space, and art of detail. Project types include :
  • residential and cultural facility new construction
  • residential, commercial, and museum renovations
  • exhibit design

    Owner/CM Consulting & Representation

The unique conditions of preservation design, material salvaging, bidder pre-qualification, compliance mock-ups, and general constructability are specialties within the industry that can have significant impacts on project schedules and budgets. Peer reviews can identify constructability conflicts between historic assemblies and new construction- particularly in relation to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Early identification in design phases supports project cost certainty, and avoids redesigns following contract award. OPISO Studio offers consulting services including:

    • Design document peer & scope reviews
    • ROM cost forecasting
    • Value-based design proposals and charettes
    • Contractor proposal reviews
    • Bid reviews
